Water Tank Cleaning Made Simple: Our Process

If you manage a private or public facility with a water tank, it must remain in good operating condition. For non-potable (non-drinkable) water such as fire water tanks, that means keeping the water quality sufficient as to allow optimal flow for emergencies, so the tank should be free of contaminants and soil that could lead to blockages. For potable water, the water must of course be safe to drink and meet all relevant health and safety standards.

Even a well-constructed tank, however, can over time accumulate contaminants to the point that it may no longer meet regulatory compliance or, at worst, pose an imminent threat to residents. For these reasons, tank cleaning services are critical for routine maintenance of the water tank and ensuring its contents meet compliance.

Here’s how Tank Vision performs tank cleaning in Sydney and elsewhere:

Water Tank Inspection

The first step is to do a thorough analysis of the water tank. This is a perfect opportunity to inspect for any signs of physical damage, wear and tear, faulty components, contamination, buildup of sediment, and other issues that may be interfering with the normal operation of the water tank.

Full Drainage of the Tank

Once the tank has been fully inspected, all of its contents are carefully drained out using tried and true methods that are safe and efficient. This process is time-sensitive and to not interfere with the normal operation of the water tank for too long a period, it can be performed at a time that ensures minimal disruption.

High-Pressure Cleaning

With the water tank now empty of its contents, our specialised water tank experts will thoroughly clean both the interior and exterior of the tank using a pressure washer set to ideal pressure settings so as not to damage the tank but to remove any built up sediment or soil that may be found.

Things like algae, sediments, and other debris can build up over time and pressure washing will eliminate the majority of these. Manual cleaning of tough spots also ensures that the tank is properly and thoroughly cleaned.

Full Disinfection for Hygiene & Safety

A fully cleaned potable tank next needs to be disinfected to ensure that organic matter does not multiply afterwards. The interior of the tank is fully disinfected along all surfaces using industry-approved sanitiser compounds which eliminate any bacteria, viruses, or pathogens that may be present.

For potable water tanks, this is obviously essential for regulatory compliance as well as for hygiene and health. Residents consuming water can rest assured that the water will be fully safe to drink as it is free of contaminants.

Rinsing & Refilling the Water Tank

The cleaned and disinfected water tank can now be rinsed off and refilled to resume operations. In compliance with AS1851 tank cleaning and disinfection, our water tank experts will then thoroughly rinse the tank to get rid of any residue of cleaning agents and built-up sediment or debris.

Only when the tank is fully disinfected and free of contaminants, it is refilled with clean and fresh water again.

Final Inspection and Handover

Just before completing the water tank cleaning process, our technicians will give the tank a final inspection that double-checks that the tank is fully cleaned and sanitised and that the water is of adequate quality for consumption. A full photographic report is then provided which shows before and after cleaning photographs, details the tank’s age and condition, highlights any non-compliant components or components requiring repair, and detailing the steps necessary to bring the tank back to a state of compliance.
